The purpose of this campaign is to officially designate the American Flamingo as Florida’s state bird. For years, the flamingo has symbolized the vibrant beauty, tropical charm, and unique wildlife of Florida. While the Northern Mockingbird holds the current title, we believe the flamingo better represents our state’s identity, culture, and history.

By advocating for this change, we aim to:

The campaign to designate the American Flamingo as Florida's official state bird began with a simple realization: the flamingo, a vibrant symbol of Florida’s tropical allure, has long been overlooked as a state emblem. Despite being a native species, the American Flamingo was mistakenly considered non-native for decades, and its population dwindled due to habitat loss and hunting. Recent scientific studies and conservation efforts by groups like the Florida Flamingo Working Group have confirmed its rightful place in Florida’s ecosystem, reigniting interest in this iconic bird. Inspired by this discovery, a group of passionate Floridians and conservationists launched this campaign to celebrate the flamingo and elevate it to its deserved status. Through community outreach, legislative support, and grassroots advocacy, this movement has grown into a statewide effort to make history.
